The National Library of Belarus hosted an international roundtable dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka.

Lesya Ukrainka is a renowned Ukrainian writer, author of famous poetic, prosaic and dramatic pieces. This year, the world celebrates the 150th anniversary of her birth. This date is included in the calendar of Commemorations and Anniversaries of UNESCO.

Representatives of the co-organizer institutions made welcoming speeches: Mr Alies Susha, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus and Ms Olga Timush, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Belarus.

During the international roundtable, the fate and oeuvre of the famous poet, her artistic heritage, the activities of state and public institutions to preserve and popularize it were considered. Belarusian contacts of Lesya Ukrainka, her Minsk addresses and the perpetuation of her memory in Belarus were in the centre of attention among the participants.

Domestic scientists and specialists from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus (Ms Alena Barmotsina), the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Ms Tatsiana Piakutka-Vabishchevich), the Belarusian State University (Mr Igar Zaprudski), literary magazine "Polymia" (Mr Mikalaj Trus) and Minsk Public Association of Ukrainians "Zapovit" (Ms Galina Kalyuzhnaya) shared their latest research.

Researchers from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, I.Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine spoke from the Ukrainian side.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
