On 12 July, the library hosted a roundtable “500 years of the Belarusian book-printing”, which took place within the framework of a seminar of heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices “The main activities of Belarusian exterior institutions in modern conditions”.
The event was conducted at the conference hall of the National Library of Belarus. The seminar programme included lections “The techniques of an effective business communication” and "The history of the Belarusian statehood and the achievements of modern historical science".
During the meeting Roman Motulsky, the director of the National Library of Belarus, presented the international scientific project for facsimile re-edition of the book heritage of Francysk Skaryna carried out jointly with the bank BelVEB.
Speaking about the scope of the project, he named the countries where the events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book-printing had already taken place, and thanked the heads of diplomatic missions for their assistance in event organization. The participants of the seminar also received an invitation to the International Congress "500 Years of the Belarusian Book-Printing" and the exhibition "Francysk Skaryna and his epoch”.
At the end of the meeting the guests made a sightseeing excursion to the library building, during which they got acquainted with the history, architecture and information resources of the institution. At the exhibition "Five centuries of the Belarusian book-printing" the seminar participants were able to plunge into the history of the book culture of Belarus, and in the Book Museum they could see the rare printed publications of Francysk Skaryna.
