The event dedicated to the completion of the charitable action "The Book - the Source of Wisdom, Knowledge and Science ..." was held in the National Library of Belarus on January 23, 2018.
The action timed to celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing was launched in May 2017. Its title reflects the famous enlightener Francysk Skaryna’s saying "The book is the source of wisdom, knowledge and science...".
Over the past year, the National Library of Belarus together with Belarusian publishing houses, bookselling companies (Belarus, Mastackaya litaratura, Pravo i ekonomika, Popurri, Vladimir Grevtsov’s Agency, Four Quarters, Zvyazda, Krasiko-print, Tregross-Info, MobilBook, MET, BookLineGroup, Eureka-M, Akademicheskaya kniga, Belkniga, Helton, Piter-М etc.) were gathering modern print editions to offer there to children’s and care homes. The employees of the National Library of Belarus as well as Minsk residents joined the action.
More than 14 500 print editions were gifted to different Belarusian social institutions: children’s homes, boarding schools, care home for war and labor veterans etc.
Tatyana Kuzminich, deputy director for Information Resources of the National Library of Belarus thanked all participants of the action and partners for their assistance. Alla Korbut, director of the book-selling organization "LibriFan", and Alla Antsiperovich, librarian of the Minsk educational and wellness center "Lider" performed on behalf of donators.
The donation of a literature set to the orphanage No. 5 in Minsk was held during the event. It included more than 350 copies of children's, popular science, educational, methodological and fiction literature. The teacher of the orphanage No. 5 in Minsk, Ekaterina Tsukhai, noted the relevance of the printed book in the pedagogical process, aesthetic and spiritual development of children. In their turn, the inmates of the children’s home, in order to express their gratitude, prepared and handed over the "Winter Landscape" to the National Library of Belarus.
The action results are summed up. But this does not mean at all that the time for good deeds and charity should also come to the end. The remarkable saying is always actual: "There is always time for good deeds! A place for good deeds is everywhere!"
