Two lifetime editions by Kazimierz Siemienowicz The Great Art of Artillery – the first one in Latin (1650) and the second one is a translation into French (1651) – were published in Amsterdam.
The Great Art of Artillery by Kazimierz Siemienowicz is a monograph written in Latin, a language understood by all the scientists in Europe at that time, consists of five parts and includes 206 engravings from drawings made by the authors.
K. Siemienowicz is a theorist of artillery, military engineer, considered one of the founders of the global ballistic missile and space.
His researches attracted attention of experts from different countries and was translated into many European languages. For centuries, this work was not only one of Europe’s most important scientific works, but also one of the most popular books of artillery.
In September 2012 early printed books were acquired for the Library by JSC "BPS-Sberbank". The event took place within the framework of the Year of Book and was timed to the 90th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus.
