The collection of national documents covers book publications from 1831 to present day. This is the fullest collection of documents published on the territory of Belarus; works by Belarusian authors published outside Belarus; documents published in Belarusian language, irrespective of the place of publication, and documents concerning Belarus, irrespective of their language, the place of publication and other attributes.
The collection of books of of the Russian Federation and the CIS member states includes more than 3 million items and covers scientific publication from 1831 to today: books of collected historical documents, thousands of monographs, popular books, reference books on all fields of knowledge, textbooks, fiction etc.
The collection of foreign books totals more then 400 thousand items and covers publications from 1801 to today, irrespective of the language: books on technique, medicine, history, fine art, architecture, and classical literature. The stock includes as well a valuable collection of books in Polish language published in the XIX–XX centuries both on the territory of Poland and outside Poland, or concerning Poland.
The collection of maps totals about 20 thousand items and includes different kinds of maps, atlases and schemes. There are city maps and village maps, and maps and atlases of all countries and continents.
The collection of dissertations and authors’ abstracts of dissertations includes hand-written dissertations defended in Belarus (since 1997), microfiches of dissertations defended in the USSR, and authors’ abstracts of dissertations defended in Belarus and former soviet republics.
The collection of microfilms and microfiches includes the copies of the most valuable publications which are presented in one copy only or are not available.
In the last years the book stock of the department has received a collection of emigrant literature in Russian language. A particular collection of books published by the UNO and its branches exists since 1976.
The collection of group processing includes official documents, working documents, reference and information documents, advertising materials, teaching and methodological materials, artworks etc. The aforementioned materials are arranged in particular files and are delivered in special collections department.
