Document Indexing and Authoritative Control Department
General information
The Document Indexing and Authority Control Department was created on July 1, 2021 as a result of the merger of the Document Indexing Department and the National Database of Authority Records Maintainance Department.
Activities
The activities of the department's specialists are aimed at implementation of processes of coordinate, classification indexing of documents, development and maintenance of the national database of authority files and the union database "Scientists of Belarus".
Main functions of the division:
- semantic processing of all types of documents entering the library collections by means of classification (using information retrieval languages UDC and State Rubricator of Scientific and Technical Information) and coordinate indexing
- maintenance of the national database of authority files as part of linguistic and information support of the Union electronic catalog of the National Library of Belarus;
- development of authority/normative, information and reference machine-readable files for the following types of names (entitets): "person’s name", "organization’s name", "generic name", "subject", " administrative and territorial or geographical name", "trademark", "unified header", "name/header", "name/integrating unified header", "place of publication as access point", "form, genre or physical specifications of the document”;
- corporate development of the database “Scientists f Belarus” in cooperation with institutions of higher education, scientific institutes and libraries of the Republic of Belarus;
- maintenance and editing of card systematic and subject catalogues of the library
- scientific and consulting and methodological support of libraries of Belarus on document indexing and the formation of authority / regulatory records.

Indexing of documents – registration of the imprint of printed publications: UDC and LBC classification indices, State Rubricator of Scientific and Technical Information headings, author's mark.
