From December 16th, 2009, to January 19th, 2010, in Belarusian literature reading room (room 205) is open a book exhibition “The depth of knowledge and consideration” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Illarion Ignatenko (1919–2002).


The books by Illarion Ignatenko, the Belarus historian, academician of National Academy of Sciences reveal social, economic and political preconditions of the February and the October Revolutions in Belarus, the role and the place of national parties and organizations in revolutionary changes of the country, the history of formation of the Belarusian national state after the October Revolution, the influence of the external factor on national and state self-expression of the country, and principles of creation of the Belarusian Soviet state.

A particular place at the exhibition is given to the first monograph by the scientist: “The poorest peasantry as the ally of proletariat in struggle for the victory of the October Revolution in Belarus (1917-1918)” (1962) which became his doctoral thesis. There are as well other books by the author dedicated to the February and the October Revolutions in Belarus and published between the 1960th and the 1990th.

The other section of the exhibition displays collective works by different authors prepared and printed under Illarion Ignatenko’s direct management. There are books on the history of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), the Great Patriotic War etc.

Illarion Ignatenko is the author of more than 200 scientific papers.

Academician Illarion Ignatenko is the laureate of the Order of the Great Patriotic War, the medal “For Defense of Caucasus”, diplomas of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR and other awards.

We present the updated virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region": on the 205th anniversary of the composer's birth

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
