The director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulski was on a visit to Kiev at the invitation of the Ministry of culture of Ukraine on May 25–27.
The main aim of the visit was presentation of the facsimile edition Book heritage of Francysk Skaryna and its donation to seven leading Ukrainian cultural institutions before the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the East Slavic book printing. The ceremony took place in the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine on May 26 with the support of the temporary charge d’affaires of the Republic of Belarus in Ukraine Anatoly Konoplyanikov, employees of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Ukraine, high-ranking public officials of the Ministry of culture of Ukraine, representatives of the Centre of the Belarusian language and culture named after V. Korotkevich at the Institute of Philology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev.
Volumes of the edition Book heritage of Francysk Skaryna, published in the framework of the project of the National Library of Belarus and the Bank BelVEB OJSC, will be given to funds of the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine, the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, scientific libraries of Kharkov and Odessa, the Museum of the book and printing, Zakarpattia Lore Museum, the State historical and cultural reserve museum in Ostroga.
The event should activate mutually beneficial Belarusian and Ukrainian cooperation in the sphere of culture, raise interest in Ukraine to the united cultural heritage of Belarusian and Ukrainian people, inform Ukrainians about the condition and prospects of the librarianship development in the Republic of Belarus.
Roman Motulski signed the agreement on cooperation between the National Library of Belarus and the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine and got acquainted with the work of the organization during the festive ceremony.
On May 27, the director of the National Library of Belarus met with the head of the National Library of Ukraine named after V. Vernadsky Vladimir Popik and the head of the Scientific Library named after M. Maksymovich of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev Oleg Serbin. During these talks the sides discussed topical issues of the management of libraries and the introduction of information technologies to user service; priority areas for inter-library cooperation and document exchange; the joint participation of library specialists in professional events scheduled to be held in Belarus and Ukraine in 2016–2017. The heads of the National Library of Belarus and the Scientific Library named after M. Maksymovych of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev signed a cooperation agreement.
