On December 6th, a round table meeting "Open access resources and scientific communications” was held in the National Library of Belarus.
The event was arranged by the Council of Belarusian Libraries on Information Cooperation and the National Library of Belarus.
The round table gathered more than 50 participants: librarians, scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, research workers, university professors and students.
The seminar started with the opening address of А.А. Sheremeteva, Head of the Information center of the National Library of Belarus. During the meeting questions of the development of the open access movement in the Republic of Belarus were discussed, and results of the UNESCO regional consultations on problems of the open access to scientific information and researches were analyzed.
At the round table there were delivered reports and presentations of head of the working group on open access to scientific and educational resources of the Council of Belarusian Libraries on Information Cooperation V.I. Brichkovsky (“Site openaccess.by as a mean of promotion of the Open access initiative in Belarus”, “Results of the UNESCO regional consultations on problems of the open access to scientific information and researches”), Master's Degree Student of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts А.V. Kovalevsky (“Analysis of opportunities of use of electronic editions for increase of effectiveness of scientific communications”), chief research worker of the Joint Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus S.F. Lipnitsky (“Opportunities of use of automated system of search and abstracting of scientific-technical information in information-analytical activity”).
In the round table discussion participated scientists of Joint Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, employees of the National Library of Belarus, the Central Scientific Library named after Y. Kolas at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus, the library of the Belarusian State Medical University, and representatives of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics.
