The 8th International Congress “The Library as a Phenomenon of Culture” opened at the National Library of Belarus on October 21. This year's theme: Libraries during the pandemic: new opportunities, new solutions.

The international congress brought together over 300 delegates from Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Russia and Ukraine. These are leading experts from libraries, archives, museums, publishing houses, educational and research institutions and organisations, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, software, hardware, information products and industrial equipment manufacturers for libraries.

Mr Anatol Markievich, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and Mr Uladzimir Rabavolau, Director General of the National Centre for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Belarus addressed the congress participants with welcoming remarks and wishes for productive work. Ms Aksana Knizhnikava, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, opened the event with a welcome speech.

An exhibition of publishing products, electronic resources and services has been launched.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
