An open dialogue on “The Formation and Development of Belarusian Statehood”, timed to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), took place in the library, on December 19.

The organizers are the National Library of Belarus and the Central Committee of the Public Association “Belarusian Republican Youth Union” (BRSM).

The main event was the presentation of the first book of the five-volume publication Historical Destinies of the Belarusian Soviet Statehood, which is to be published by the publishing house “Belaruskaya nauka” (Belarusian Scienec). The team of authors includes historians of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and a number of higher educational institutions.

Speaking at the event, the deputy director of the National Library of Belarus, Alexander Susha , noted the importance of the BSSR’s anniversary in the context of the history of Belarus and told about the exposition prepared by the country's main library for the 100th anniversary of the BSSR. The exhibition “The Republic Manifesto” will present unique documents, which reflect the fateful events in the history of our country.

“The Open Dialogue” is the BRSM project, which is a broad discussion platform for young people. Young activists asked sharp questions concerning Belarusian statehood. Representatives of the authorities, politicians, businessmen and public figures answered their questions.

The event featured a thematic exhibition of publications from the collections of the National Library. The exposition presented scientific and popular science publications, monographs and collective works, individual articles and maps, revealing the prerequisites and factors for the proclamation of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic on January 1, 1919.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
