Konstantin Basil Ostrozhsky Memory Day

On February 28, 2008 at 16.00 in the gallery “Labyrinth” took place an event timed to the Memory Day of Konstantin Basil Ostrozhsky (1527–1608), the Great Duchy of Lithuania cultural worker and public figure. During the event was open a book exhibition “Educator from Ostrozhsky family” and presented a CD-ROM “The Slutsk Gospel – Belarusian manuscript of the XVI-th century”. The original of this unique hand-written monument is displayed in the Museum of a Book from February 28, 2008 to March 15, 2008.

On February 28, 2008, Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus signed the Decree №135 "On the Republic of Belarus State Awards". 90 persons were rewarded for their contribution to the building of National Library of Belarus. Roman Motulsky, Prof., PhD, the Director of National Library of Belarus was rewarded with the medal “For Labor Merits”.

On February 6-7, 2008, in M. Gorky Scientific Library, with the assistance of the Swedish Institute, took place an International seminar “Electronic resources in the modern university library”. Belarusian, Lithuanian, Russian, and Swedish librarians participated in the event. During the seminar were discussed the issues of digitizing of manuscripts, incunabula, and rare books; development of electronic libraries, and providing of the free access to electronic information resources.
