From 19 December to 19 January, an exhibition "Reread all Mickiewicz’s works... " timed to the 215th anniversary from the date of the birth of Adam Mickiewicz at the National Library of Belarus.


Works of the great poet Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855) became the common property of the world culture, a subject for study and a subject of a constant interest of representatives from different countries. It is not accidentally that in Belarus, the birthplace of the poet, people have always been interested in his life and work, and this interest continues.

Mickiewicz loved very much the country where he spent his youth. Therefore, the poet glorified this land by his poetry. Novogrudok, Vilna, Minsk, Svityaz, Neman, Vileyka and many other Belarusian place-names are often mentioned in his works. Mickiewicz wrote many works about the life of the Belarusian people.

A book exhibition "Read all Mickiewicz’s works..." calls upon read all his works. Besides the Polish-speaking collection in 17 volumes, and the Russian-speaking five-volume collection, the exposition includes collections of best works, collections of poems, ballads, sonnets, fables and articles. A special place of the exhibition will take publications of the immortal poems of Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz, Grazhina, Conrad Wallenrod which have been published at different times. All materials are presented in Belarusian, Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Azeri. In the history of Belarusian literature the most valuable translation of Adam Mickiewicz’s poetry is of course, the work by the first translator of his works V. Dunin-Martsinkeivich. Y. Kolas, Y. Semyazhon, P. Bitel, M. Tank, A. Zaritsky, K. Stvirka also translated the poet’s works into the Belarusian language.

A number of books tell about Mickiewicz’s contemporaries, friends and muses. A part of the exhibition is devoted to the study of the life and works of Adam Mickiewicz, including his connections with the Belarusian land, and to the preservation of the memory of our glorious compatriot.

The exhibition presents about 300 documents, including editions of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Numerous portraits of Adam Mickiewicz and illustrations for his works made by such famous artists as V. Vankovich , M. Andriolli, Y. Mateyko, Y. Tysevich, V. Sharangovich, etc.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
