An anniversary book exhibition «The 90th anniversary of the Publishing House “Belarus”» runs in the National Library of Belarus (second floor, circular hall) from January 21 to February 20.


The Publishing House “Belarus” was founded in 1921 under the name of The BSSR State Publishing House (on the basis of The Belarusian Branch of the RSFSR State Publishing House founded in November 1920). The institution received name “Belarus” in 1963.

The Publishing House made a great contribution to development of national culture, propagation of scientific knowledge and consolidation of international relations. In 1980 it received theOrder of Friendship of Peoples.

One of the major tasks of the Publishing House is publication of fine art albums and photo albums about the unique nature of Belarus and Belarusian towns famous for their history and architectural heritage.

Numerous editions, such as “Under the Sky of Belarus”, “The National Art Museum of Belarus. Art of the XV – the early XX centuries”, “The National Library of Belarus”, “Napoleon Orda”, “Polotsk that we Love”, “Grodno”, “Vitebsk”, are part of national expositions at international exhibitions and fairs.

Illustrated popular scientific editions about architectural and art monuments of Belarus such as “The Grodno Cathedral”, “The Kamyanets Tower”, “Polotsk Sophia Cathedral”, “Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral”, “The Budslav Basilica”, “The Nesvizh Temple”, “Chagall and Vitebsk”, were highly appreciated and received diplomas at the republican contest “The Art of the Book”.

The exhibition presents around one hundred editions of different kinds: official and scientific editions, popular scientific literature, educational literature, manuals, fiction and advertising publications including books on history, regional study, culture, art, architecture, music, medicine, economy and other branches of knowledge. The exposition includes one of the first book published by the Publishing House: V. Ignatovski’s “Short Essay of the History of Belarus” (1921), Yakub Kolas’ “The New Land” (1923) and “Symon the Musician” (1925), Yanka Kupala’s “Unnamed” (1925). Recent editions winners of the republican contest “The Art of the Book” and participants of international book exhibitions and fairs are displayed as well.

The exposition is divided in three sections in chronological order: the 1920s, the 1940s, the 1950s – 1990s and most recent editions.

The quest tour "The road of the Great Victory"

On May 15, on the International Family Day, the National Library of Belarus was visited by members of the Belarusian Association of parents with many children in the Pervomaisky district of Minsk. They took part in the quest tour "The road of the Great Victory", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
