From August 26, 2009, to September 30, 2009, in the National Library of Belarus (the second floor, circular hall) is open a book exhibition “World War II : lessons of the history and the present” dedicted to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of World War II. (1939-1945).
It is 70 years have passed from the day of the beginning of the greatest, devastating and bloody war in the human history – World War II. It surpassed all the past wars in its destroying scope. World War II began on September 1, 1939 from hitlerite Germany’s attack on Poland. It continued six years and finished on May 8, 1945, in Europe by capitulation of Germany and on September 2, 1945 by capitulation of Japan in Asia.
At the exhibition are displayed more than 300 materials from the collections and founds of National library of Belarus and National Archives of Belarus. 20 000 photos, schemes, maps and documentary evidences picture the greatest catastrophe of the XX c..
