On 12 December, at the National Library of Belarus there took place a donation ceremony of a collection of Belarusian books to the National Library of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela (as part of the international project “Belarus today”) and a Christmas concert of the Latin American Cultural Center named after Simon Bolivar.


At the opening ceremony Elena Dolgopolova, First Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus, spoke on the importance of such an event for promotion of Belarusian culture paying a special attention to the 15-year history of cooperation between the National Library of Belarus and the Embassy of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela to Belarus. “During this time, a lot of joint actions and cultural events have been held. The library keeps about 250 books donated by Venezuelan partners, and we return the favor”, – Elena Dolgopolova said during the donation ceremony. Americo Diaz Nunez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela to Belarus, received a collection of the Belarus books for the National Library of the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela.

In his turn, the Ambassador sincerely thanked the National Library of Belarus for this valuable gift “which will allow to learning better the culture of Belarus”. “We consider that the national diplomacy is rather significant in our work. The culture plays an important role in this national diplomacy”, – Americo Diaz Nunez emphasized. Them he presented to guests’ attention a concert prepared by young adults – students of the Latin American Cultural Center named after Simon Bolivar.

The young artists acquainted spectators the Venezuelan culture by performing inflammatory songs, theatrical dances and orchestral music with a set of various musical pieces.

During several years, the National Library of Belarus with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus have carried out the international project “Belarus today”.

The purpose of the given project is the promotion of Belarus and Belarusian literature abroad. Within the frameworks of the project the National Library of Belarus transfers to the biggest libraries of the world book collections which include about 100 best editions published in Belarus about social, economic and political life of the country, its centuries-old history and culture. These are art, scientific and popular scientific editions, encyclopedias, directories and photo albums.

Within the limits of the project “Belarus today”, Belarusian editions have been transferred to the US Library of the Congress, the Russian State Library, the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky, the Azerbaijan National Library named after M.F. Akhundov, the National Library of Lithuania named after M. Mazhvidas, and the National Library of Serbia.

In 2013 four more libraries joined the project “Belarus today”. The National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus have transferred book collections to National Library of China, the University Languages and Civilizations Library (Paris, France) and the Berlin State Library (Germany).

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

On April 25, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition "Dreams about Belarus", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the 85th anniversary of the birth of People's Artist of Belarus Vasily Sharangovich.
