On 29 October, the event timed to the 150th anniversary of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was held at the National Library of Belarus.
The events dedicated to the celebration of the anniversary were organized throughout the year by the Belarusian Red Cross Society and took place throughout the country.
The event included a presentation of the Red Cross activities and the opening of a photo exhibition of the Belarusian Red Cross Society. The exhibition includes 40 photographs from the archives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) which is a kind of the chronicle of ICRC, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the development of the international humanitarian law beginning from the photo of the first page of the first Geneva Convention and ending with the recent photos from Syria. These photos were made by both the world-recognized masters and the ICRC ordinary employee who were witnesses of dramatic and tragic situations in various parts of the world.
"The photos tell stories about events for over 100 years. The main message of the exhibition is to reveal the importance of humanitarian action as war always brings misery, but it is possible to make it easier, and this is the main task of the International Committee of the Red Cross", – said during the opening of the exhibition the head of the ICRC delegation in the Russian Federation, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Pascal Cuttat.
Representatives of Belarus and the International Red Cross awarded the best Belarusian volunteers diplomas of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and three winners of the stories contest "Humaneness in everyone’s heart" got valuable gifts.
