A thematic exhibition “Singing poets”, dedicated to the original song, has been opened since May 5 till July 11 in the music and audiovisual documents reading room (305).

“They think in poems
And express thoughts aloud,
Their strings are caressed with hands,
Their songs raise spirit…”
Camille

Original song or bard music is a song genre, which appeared in the 50–60s of the 20th century in the informal culture of students and young intellectuals, which quickly became widely popular.

A lyrical hero of the art original song is a person light on feet, traveler, and romantic. An evening by the bonfire, backpack, tent, guitar are simple attributes that surround him. And pure human relationships with no place to envy and acquisitiveness are the most important, and the best support in life is a friend’s hand selflessly stretched at the first call.

More than 100 documents presented at the exposition reveal the world of bard song.

Books Original Song: Anthology by D. Sukharev (2002), Bards by L. Anninsky (1999), From the Bonfire to the Microphone by A. and M. Levitans (1996), etc. acquaint with the history and development of this genre. The Typology of the Soviet Mass Culture by T. Cherednichenko (1994), Singers and Leaders by V. Frumkin (2005) are interesting because of the thoughts about intertwining of art and power, recollections about classicists and founders of the genre A. Galich, B. Okudzhava, and talks with famous bards A. Gorodnitsky, Y. Kim, T. and S. Hikitins.

The exhibition presents many biographic and autobiographic books of famous performers: O. Mityaev’s By the Veins of a Leafy Hand (2010), A. Rosenbaum’s Let’s Fly (2009), Meetings in the Waiting Room. Recollections about Bulat (2003), O. Shilina’s Vladimir Vysotsky and Music (2008), etc.

A special place in the exposition belongs to note and audio documents. Here it’s possible to find collections of favorite songs Let’s Fill Hearts with Music (1989), Bards Sing (1991), Songs by the Night Fire (1996), Songs in the Backpack (2000); author’s collections: E. Bachurin’s I’m Your Shadow (1999), M. Shcherbakov’s Different Life (1997), I. Simanowski’s Declare Love for the North (1994), A Hundred Songs by Viktor Berkovsky (1995), etc.

It’s interesting not only to read about songs. You can listen to famous My Dear by Y. Vizbor, Curve of the Yellow Guitar by O. Mityaev, Behind the Fog by Y. Kukin, Alexandra by S. Nikitin, Georgian, Your Majesty, Woman by B. Okudzhava, songs by A. Galich, V. Vysotsky, V. Berkovsky, A. Gorodnitsky, V. Dolina, A. Rosenbaum and other authors.

The exhibition is interesting to amateurs of original songs and those who knows little about this genre.
