A book exhibition "The strings of the shining talent” timed to the 75th birthday of Belarusian writer and translator Yanka Sipakov runs in reading room 205 from January 13 to January 31.
Honored cultural worker of Belarus Yanka Sipakov is the author of many books of poems: “Sun Shower” (1960), “Day” (1968), “At Noon to Water”(1976), “Eyes at Night” (1978), “Poems, Ballades, Parables” (2010) and others. Yanka Sipakov’s best work is the poem “The Gathering of Slavonic Ballades” (1973) for which the author received Yanka Kupala State Prize of Belarus (1976). The author created a poetic image of the history of the Slavic people, from the rise of the Slavs up to the 20th century, finding bright, expressive lines even for small peoples such as the Kashubians or the Lugii.
Yanka Sipakov is also a prolific prose writer. He started as a humorist and then continued his literary career as the author of short stories, essays, parables and metaphors. Yanka Sipakov’s recent works are “the mood diaries” – “Quenching the Thirst” (2007), “Seeking Peace amidst the Fuss” (journal “Maladost”. – 2009. – № 3–5).
Yanka Sipakov “… has managed to compose the ode to the Belarusian people, the hymn to the Belarusian house and to the Motherland …”, – wrote literary critic Olga Shinkarenko about one of his recent books – “The Green Leaf on the Earth”. Such words are relevant to all works of poet and writer Yanka Sipakov.
The exhibition consists of four subject sections presenting the writer’s literary heritage, his poetic translations and books about Yanka Sipakov’s life and career.
