The Champion of the Belarusian Past
The exhibition "The Champion of the Belarusian Past" is timed to coincide with the 170th anniversary of Aliaksej Sapunou (1851–1924), historian, archaeographer, local history expert. The exhibition is based on unique materials from Sapunou's personal archive and library. These include biographical documents, gymnasium and student notebooks and correspondence with researchers. There are manuscripts, lithographs, plans and facsimiles of documents to the legendary "Vitebsk Antiquity" and other works. The real rarity is the manuscript "The History of Vitsiebsk" which, unfortunately, was never published. |
Recreated Masterpiece The Book Museum hosts an unusual exhibition titled "The Recreated Masterpiece" on March 30. A unique copper plate of the 17th century is shown together with a portrait of the King and Grand Prince Jan III Sabieski recreated from it using the ancient technology of engraving for the first time. |

The Khraptovich Library: on the Way Back
The Book Museum presented the unique exhibits for the first time: the 19th century correspondence of the Khraptovich family and recovered from abroad books from their famous library in Shchorsy.
Three books and correspondence of the Khraptovich family were returned to Belarus from Germany in February 2020 and have been stored in the National Library ever since. The return happened due to the efforts of the charity fund “Shchorsy and Khraptoviches”. Once, the library, started by Ioakhim Litavor Khraptovich in the 18th century was considered one of the richest in East Europe. |
